I know I'm a little late, but I wanted to write about my 20 week appointment since it was the half-way mark. I think it finally started to hit me that we are going to have a baby in our family VERY soon, and we need to start preparing. Yes, it is fun but also a bit overwhelming as you realize all the stuff you need and what all needs to get done. Anyway, at our March 23rd doctor's appointment, everything looked great. Our ultrasound tech said that my womb was picture perfect and that our sonogram pics could be in a textbook. Guess we are going to be great parents! She also said that he was most definitely a boy! As of 20 weeks, I had gained 8 lbs (here's hoping that number stays on the low end). I really can't complain about this pregnancy. I have had minimal sickness, not really any tiredness, and have been able to stay active. The only side effect that has bothered me is that I've had swollen ankles.
The only thing that the doctor was a little concerned with is that my cervix is measuring a little small. A good measurement is above 3 centimeters and mine is barely above that at 3.2. A small cervix can lead to pre-term labor and to prevent that, a woman is often put on bedrest. Of course, I have no time to go on bedrest with trying to graduate law school, pass the bar exam, and prepare for a baby. She wasn't too concerned but just wants to check me more regularly to make sure it doesn't get any smaller. We are hoping for good results. She did tell me not to run until I come back, so it's been a week of power walking for me. I'm not really worried about it and know that I will do whatever is necessary to deliver a healthy baby. Here's an ultrasound picture so you can see how much he has grown!
